44 Free photos on the Rio Negro departing from Marina Davi, near Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil

To get to the rubber plantation museum, Museo do Seringal Vila Paraiso, departures are from the Marina Davi. Marina Davi is located about a 20 minute walk from the Tropical Hotel, around the point from Ponta Negra. It is a hustling point of departure to many locations, with some semblance of organization, but be sure to bargain, perhaps with the greeter. You may be the only tourists and the only people who speak English.  It is not a problem. It is not clear whether all the drivers are free business folks, but they wore similar clothes, perhaps even uniforms, the day we visited. We took the fare proposed, since it was about a third that quoted by the Hotel travel agent. It was not clear we were headed in the right direction, so there was always doubt until we actually arrived. The driver went on the tour with us and then took us back to Marina Davi a couple hours later. An excellent adventure! All these photos are of that trip. Note where we stopped to refuel. As a former fisherman, it would have been great to have floating gas stations and mini-markets in the middle of the bay.

Manaus is a city in the northern part of Brazil and capital of Amazonas State. Located on the Rio Negro near its confluence with the Rio Solimões (also known as the Amazon River), it is the chief port and a hub for the region's extensive river system. It is also a common point of departure for tourists visiting the rest of the Amazon region.
Situated on the banks of the Rio Negro (meaning Black River, because of the dark color of the water), Manaus is an important centre for ecological tourism. One of its most popular attractions is the Ponta Negra beach, 13 kilometres (8 miles) from the centre of the city, where, when the river is low, the sands are exposed right down to the river bed, forming a beautiful contrast with the dark waters of the river itself.
