The Leipzig Zoo opened the Kiwara Savannah portion of it's Africa exhibit in April of 2004. Since that time as visitors pass through the Africa gate and walk along the serpentine pathways they come upon exciting lookout areas where they can observe giraffes, scimitar-horned oryx, Thomson gazelles and zebras as well as lesser flamingos, ostriches and other species of birds. Nearby are Spotted hyena, separated only by a ditch.
